Similan Islands and Surin Islands


This archipelago of nine small granite islands sits 90km north of Phuket and is accessible from Ao Nang by liveaboard boats only. The Similans are heralded as one of the top sites in Asia, with this reputation comes high expections and you will not be disappointed. Dramitic underwater terrain, featuring limestone boulders of varying sizes and shapes, form exciting swim-thrus and gullys. The hard and soft coral is plentiful and is some of the best preserved reef in Thailand. Expect to see Indian Titans, Sythe Triggerfish, Moorish Idols, Cuttlefish, Yellow-Margined, Gaint and Honeycomb Morey Eels. For the fortunate there will be Eagle Rays, Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. With over 24 sites to choose from and an average visibility of 30m, the Similans is one of the best diving areas in the world.

Koh Surin Marine National Park

Further north towards the Burma border the 5 granite islands of Surin Park are located. Also included in the park are Koh Bon, Richelieu Rock and Koh Ta Chai, these are the premier sites and are situated in between the Similans and Surin. They feature a series of multi-level reefs, each one different in its formation and marine life. Pinnate Batfish and Napolean Wrasse are two of the unique fish here. Koh Bon and Richelieu are both good Whaleshark and Manta Ray sites. Visibility can hit over 40m so bring your cameras.
